Wednesday, 9/24/08 Reported By: Brooke

RINNNNNG! Goes the school bell. Everybody on the playground line up and all the teachers come out wearing nice suits and dresses. My class goes inside with are teacher Ms. Jensen. As soon as we got in the room, we saw a box that said “Brownie”. Ms Jensen said “Our classroom pet Brownie has just died’’.  Brownie was one of our mice. The other little black mouse is still alive. I remember Brownie when I moved to fourth grade. Now I am in 5th grade and Brownie is gone and I will never see her again.

Ms. Jensen said we should do our morning work on the board.  I had to go look for a shovel in other classrooms for the burial of Brownie. I could not find a shovel so Ms. Jensen said she would use a dustpan. Ms. Jensen got the coffin for Brownie, a garden box and dustpan and told the class to get in line for the funeral of Brownie. We went to a dirt path near the church and put Brownie in the hole we dug up. We said a prayer for her and poured the dirt on the coffin and put rocks all over it.  I found a pearl and put it in the middle. We all went back to the classroom and did our reading stations.

After that, we went to the library. I picked out a book called “Halloween”. We came back and did more stations. Rinnng!! The time I have been waiting for, snack! After snack it was math. We got out our math workbooks and did our work. After doing work in our workbooks we learned about factors and divisible and practiced what we learned on our whiteboards. Afterwards we learned about ‘my kids bank”. We learned about keeping our class cash in our bank account and how to we go to the website to look at our account. We wrote down our user name and password. Rinnnng! Lunchtime! After lunch was science, we watched a quick Brain Pop movie about the six kingdoms. Next, we did worksheets. Then we wrote down our homework.

Finally we started correcting our ITBS booklet we did over the summer. Rinnng! The end of the day. We packed up and went home. What a great day at STS!

It was a wonderful Tuesday morning at St. Timothy School. The bell rang at 7:55 a.m. When we entered the classroom we quickly started taking out our religion books to learn about Chico Mendes, a Brazilian environmentalist who helped save the rainforest by stopping the deforestation of trees so that wildlife could not be endangered.  After religion, we prayed the Second Sorrowful Mystery, The Scourging at the Pillar. It is when Pontius Pilate sentenced Jesus to be scourged at pillar with whips.

Following the rosary we moved on to reading, we read, “Knots in my Yo-Yo String.”   When we finished reading the book we rotated through the Reading Stations.  After Reading Stations we went directly to our snack break.

When we returned from break we corrected our math homework.  We were then surprised with a pop quiz with Tim and Moby telling us about Prime Numbers.  It was then we had to take our lunch break, which is about 40 minutes.

After lunch, we were very busy.  We had to correct our Science homework. We had a pop quiz in Science.  We then corrected our Social Studies homework and had our Social Studies test.  After all that work we did our Tuesday folders.  When that was over, we were ready to go home for the day.  Before the end of the day I had to step out to my band practice and played the saxophone.  One more exciting day comes to an end in our fifth grade class.

After coming from outside we got in and heard the morning announcements. Once the announcement was over we unpacked and got ready for the day. Next we did handwriting. In handwriting we quoted about how God forgives you as much as you forgive others. To me this means I should always forgive others the same way that God forgives me.

Afterwards we looked up Matthew 18, 23-35 in the Bible. When that was over it was music time. Our music teacher Mr. Howell taught us a new song called “A Round of Goodbyes”. After music it was Vocabulary Word of Week. Once we picked our person who we thought did the best and picked our word for the week I found out that my word was republican.

Finally it was Recess. Once recess was over we lined up and went inside. Following recess was math. During math we learned about prime and composite numbers, we did a quiz about prime and composite numbers. For our quiz the prime numbers were red and the composite numbers were green.

When math was over we finished the movie called “Helen Keller the Miracle Worker” I admired this movie because she is blind/deaf girl who has a teacher who helps her communicate with other people with her hands and fingers.

When the movie was over we went to lunch. During lunch my whole class was playing with each other. That was the first time during the school year. Once lunch was over we did Social Studies.

During Social Studies we started the Ch.1 review. At 2:00 it was Science. In science we read about comparing invertebrates and vertebrates, because one has backbone and the over doesn’t. Then we talked about the library rules and genre at our class library after we checked out books to take home or to stay in class.

Afterwards we wrote down our homework Ms. Jensen came around to checked it and we packed up went home.

It was another wonderful at the 5th grade class!

T.G.I.F! (Thank Goodness it’s Friday). I got to school a little early today. As always Ms. Jensen came downstairs to collect her fifth grade class. When we came into the classroom, we read the Morning Message and then began unpacking our bags and putting away our books. There was a Time For Kids magazine on our desk so we began reading it. There was a worksheet that went along with the magazine. When we finished with the worksheet it was time to correct our spelling and word study homework. After we corrected our homework we took our spelling test. Then we read our story for the week one more time, and took our reading test. Finally it was snack time.

Once snack was over, I had finished my reading test so; I got to do my job for the class. My job as the Future Fish librarian is to label the books correctly and put the books on the right shelves, my other librarians (Selena and Sydni) helped me out a lot. By the time Ms. Jensen told us to return to our seats everybody had finished their test. It was now time for math. During math time, we cut fractions pieces while listening to music, this part of math I enjoyed. We also took notes during math. Todays math lesson was all about fractions. Fractions are very useful when dealing with food. Once we finished taking notes there was still about five minutes to get ahead in our homework. By the time we finished everything everybody’s tummy was rumbling. It was time for lunch.

Sadly all good things must come to an end but often the end leads to another fun event. In this case that means lunch finished, but we had an extra thirty minutes of P.E. (Physical Education). During physical education I played volleyball with about eleven fifth graders and one fourth grader. Once we finished playing we went inside and started finishing up the movie called The Miracle Worker. The movie we watched was the story of Helen Keller’s life. We watched it until there were only five minutes till the day would be over. This wraps up the week. Looking forward to another great week.

Thursday, 9/18/08 Reported By: Kelly

This morning at school our class had a substitute because Ms.Jensen, our teacher had to go to a meeting about ITBS tests.  When the bell rings we are still outside so we have to go to 6th grade because Ms.Harner was late.  While we are about to go in the 6th grade she comes so instead we go to our room.  After we all got settled in we have to empty our backpacks and get everything we need for today out.  Then when everyone was ready I came around to check agendas to make sure they got them signed from their parents. (That’s my job.)  When that’s finished Ms.Harner checked that everyone was here.  For our morning work we did a packet about Helen Keller.  Helen was blind and deaf by the age of two.  After twenty minutes we had to correct the packet.  I didn’t get anything wrong!

Once that was done, each of our groups did reading stations to help us with our reading.  Our group did comprehension questions and vocabulary.  Afterwards we had Language pages to do for practice, we had twenty questions.  Finally, snack time!  Sadly, when snack was done we corrected our math from last night and A1 pretest.  While correcting we all had an argument about edges on a square.  Then what I’ve been studying for came the math test.  I’m sure I did really good!  To give us a brake from work, Ms.Harner gave us free time.  Now was lunch which was really fun.  At the end of lunch Ms.Jensen came back!  She said the meeting was really boring, poor Ms.Jensen.

When we got into the classroom she talked about what tests we need to study for.  After that we all wrote down assignments and packed our backpacks.  Then we talked about Helen Keller and what she had to go through being blind and deaf.  Ms.Jensen then puts on a movie about her but we only watched about 25 minutes of it.  So far I think everyone liked it!  At 2:00 coach comes in to teach us more about volleyball to study for our written test.  After about a half an hour we finally go outside.  The game we played today was flag football.  After another 30 minutes the bell rang for us to go home.

ANOTHER EXCITING DAY AT ST.TIMOTHY SCHOOL!

Tuesday, 9/16/08 Reported By: Grant

When I got to school at 7:18 a.m, I started playing football with my brother. As more of our friends came, we started to play a football game. When the bell rang everybody went in his or her class’s line. A few minutes later Ms. Jensen picked us up and went to our classroom.

When we had gone into our classroom, we read the morning announcement. We had to turn in our homework in the proper tray we are supposed to turn our homework in. Then we had to write a handwriting quote and what the quote meant. Before we did Religion, we had to vote on the new name of our new fish. It name ended to be Squirt. While we were doing it Kelly had an issue about how to spell the word squirt J. She figured it out though.

Next we did Religion. We corrected a page in our Religion Books. Then we started our Religion Test. When that was over, we read the story, “Yang the Eldest and His Odd Jobs” in our Reading Books. We also started our Reading Stations. Today we did Word Study. Finally we went to Recess.

After Recess we did Math. We made a number line. We labeled it and everything. Then we started our Math homework. Finally it was Lunch Time. After Lunch we did some more Reading Stations since Ms. Jensen did not eat her Lunch. After that we corrected our Science Homework. Then we did Language Arts. Since I am a Banker I could not do it because Ms. Jensen had to show us something. Then we packed up and cleaned up and went home. What a great day of school!

Friday, 9/12/08

Yes! It’s Friday! To start the day, Ms. Jensen took us in to the classroom. When we got in the room we unpacked our bags, got all the stuff we needed, and read the board for what we were supposed to do. After that we listened to the morning announcements. We have to work on pages in religion and if we finish we should work on pages in our handwriting book to improve our cursive.

When everybody was pretty much done we went over bonuses for our classroom economy. Some of the bonuses were for doing Jensen’s Journalist and sending comments on other people’s reports. Other bonuses were for answering the club RAD questions. Then Ms. Jensen gave some of us money (fake money) for getting 100% on a math quiz and doing Jensen’s Journalist. Yippee! I was one of them!

When Ms. Jensen was done handing out the $ (cash) we prayed another decade of the rosary. We have been praying a decade of the rosary each day. When we were finished we said a prayer to the Virgin Mary. Then we had to go to an assembly about a fundraiser. The man who was talking to us was shouting, but he gave out chocolate. (Not to me!) When we got back in the classroom we took our reading and vocabulary test.

Ring! Ring! Ring! Finally we went to snack. Then we got back in the classroom and finished up our reading test. While we were waiting for other people to finish we could read or write in the journal. Soon we were all finished and it was math time L. First, we corrected our math from the night before. Then we wrote down our math notes for today’s lesson. Today’s lesson is about formulas and how they work. After that we were assigned tonight’s homework and we had to write it in our agendas. When we were done we had to raise our hand for Ms. Jensen to check it. YES! Finally, we packed our bags and got out of the classroom. Another fun day in 5th grade! J
