Then, we went around to our classmate’s desk and fill out their survey questions.

Once that was finished, it was lunchtime. When lunch was done we came inside and talked about San Carlos and San Antonio mission. At 2:00 it was social studies time. When I arrived at school at 7:25 a.m, I played until the bell rang.  After the bell rang, Ms. Jensen picked us up to go to our classroom.  When we got in, we all double-checked our own paragraphs on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Next, we read page 159 in our Religion Book.  Afterwards, we corrected our Chapter 10 Religion Test.

After Religion, we did our Spelling Pretest.  We also corrected the pretest.  I only got one wrong!  But luckily it was a pretest.  Then, we graded our “Vocabulary Word of the Week.”  My vocabulary word was “vital.”

After that, we collected dirt for our Science Project.  All of our hands got dirty.  It was kind of fun.  Then, we went back inside.  Ms. Jensen read a few pages of, “Among the Hidden.”  Finally, it was Recess!

After recess, we did our Science Project.  We used the dirt we collected, soil, seeds, water, and the eggs we dyed last week.  First, we put the dirt and soil in the eggs. Then, we put seeds in the eggs. Last Ms. Jensen watered them.

Then, we did more Science.  We talked about the Three States of Matter (solids, liquids, and gases).  We also talked about atoms, and how Matter is made.  We talked about that for a long time. Finally, it was lunch!

It was Music after lunch.  First, we sang for a little bit.  Then, we talked about chord tones.  Finally, we did recorder tests.  I didn’t want to do one though.  After that, we did a little bit more of our Science Project.   We only wrote down our hypothesis and predictions.  We also talked about what we need to do for homework.

Then, we talked about our Math Project we have to do.  We only talked about the surveying, and graphing.  Next, we wrote our homework.  Finally, we cleaned up, packed up, and went home. Wow!  What a long day of school!

In the morning when we arrived in the classroom we did our D.O.L.(Daily Oral Language) and our special intention for the day. My special intention for the day was for the homeless. When we finished our morning work we did reading stations until it was time for snack, then we played handball.

After snack around 10:50am we did our math class work and found out that we were to do three lessons of math homework tonight. Then we had our reading stations.  Our reading stations are picture dictionary, reading comprehension, language arts and a computer test.  I did reading comprehension and picture dictionary. We had one more thing to do before lunch. We went to visit the ladies at the Women’s Club Luncheon. We made colored tissue flowers for them. Each person in our classroom made two flowers. The flowers I made were red, pink and orange.  Each lady received one flower.  The ladies said they really liked the lovely flowers.

The luncheon made me hungry. It is time for our lunch. We played a game of tag after lunch.  Then we went back up to the classroom.  Each student had to blow all the egg white and yolk out of the egg shell without breaking it.  Next we dyed each egg and decorated them with sequins and markers.  Then we put each egg back into the egg cartons to dry.

Afterwards, we watched a show called Tim and Moby where we learned more about science.  Then we cleaned up and read a few pages in “Among the Hidden” and finally it was time to go home.

Wednesday, 2/20/08 Reported By: Brooke

The day was rainy.  I had to go upstairs to my classroom.  Ms. Jensen had to watch over the fourth and up grades because it was raining outside.  One of the teachers came in the classroom and asked for all the kids that were fifth and up to come to his classroom.  I asked Ms. Jensen if I could go on the computer.  She said “ yes”.   All this happened before school started.  Then the bell rang, and everyone went to their classroom.

Next, the class had to do D.O.L. (daily oral language). In D.O.L. we corrected a paragraph full of mistakes,  we used a pencil then we used a red correcting pen.  Afterwards was religion.  We got ready for our religion test tomorrow.  We did a chapter review and made  corrections.  After that,  there was  stations.  In stations we did reading comprehension, picture dictionary, computers, and language arts. Picture dictionary is a dictionary with pictures.  I finished everything except the coloring for picture dictionary.  Then we had snack.  Snack had to be inside because it was raining.  We went to the 7th grade classroom for snack. Once that was done, Math.  In math we learned about ratios.  Ratios means a way of describing a relationship between two numbers.  We used clay to figure it out.  We made little circles out of the clay.

Since there is a women luncheon tomorrow and we were going to visit.  We had to make colorful tissue paper flowers.  The colors I used were light purple, light blue and dark purple.  The flowers were beautiful. Afterwards we had lunch.  Since the ground was wet, we had lunch inside. Once we finished lunch, we had P.E.  We changed into our P.E. clothes, and went outside to play “Capture the Flag” and “Kick ball”, it was really fun. When we finished, we went to our classroom to do Tuesday packets.  Tuesday packets are little bags full of our homework, test, and classwork.  Since it was a short week, instead of the Tuesday packets being taken home on Tuesday, they were taken home on Wednesday.  After Tuesday packets, we watched some of our California Missions movie. The movie talked about the church and chapel, who built it, where the bodies are laid in the cemetery,  and what  priest did, what monks and Indians did too.  Also, what earthquakes and nature has destroyed. Finally, it was time to go home. We packed up and Ms. Jensen read a few pages of “Among the Hidden”.  Another great day at St. Timothy School!!!!!!!!!

Today was a busy day.  As usual, we started out doing DOL (Daily Oral Language).  Then we shared our Special Intentions and I prayed for the homeless in Ethiopia.   Once we finished Special Intentions, we read “Jensen’s Journalist Notepad” and went right into Religion.   During this time, we talked about people calling on God and how people worship God.  I learned that you can talk to God by praying, listening to the preacher talk about God’s word and to worship God.

Following Religion, Ms. Jensen gave us a Pre-Spelling test and once again, I missed one word –

(“Mountain”).   I spelled it “monutain.  I guess I confused the letters.     Once that was done, we did Language Arts and worked on plural and possessive nouns.  Our book for the week is Off and Running about a girl named Miata who runs for president of her class and wins, but she finds out that she has to work a little harder because Rudy, her component is in the lead.

After lunch, we had music, one of my favorite times of the day.  Mr. Howl came to our class and we played our recorders and we had Test 1 - most of the class passed.  Yippee!!!  That was fun!

In Math, we divided fractions.  Math is not one of my favorite subjects, but again I am beginning to like it a little more.  When that was over, we corrected our Reading Test from last week and watch a movie about the twenty-one missions.  I think we are going to be doing a mission project soon.  We’re learning a lot about them in class.

Finally, it was the end of the day.  Everyone cleaned up and got ready to go home or, if you signed up to be on the basketball team, you went to practice.  Asha, Nina and I went to basketball practice and we had so much fun.  I love basketball and soccer.

We’ll that was the end of great day!

Woowho!!!

Today was a fun filled and exciting day at our school!  We first came into the class and unpacked our backpacks.  When we came in Ms. Jensen had a religion worksheet on the board for us to complete. Next, we went into Ms. Hauser’s room to take class pictures.   Meanwhile, the parent volunteer drivers began to show up in class.  We were going on a field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits.   Finally, Ms. Jensen separated out the students into groups.

When we arrived at the La Brea Tar Pits we were running up and down the hill that was a lot of fun.  We then walk to the other side of the building towards the entrance.  When we walked we saw a movie it was a “Sneak Peak” at what we were going to see during our visit.  After the movie ended our guide came and let us out into the Museum.

We first looked at the Harlan’s ground sloth.   We discovered that it was six feet high.  We also learned that it was an herbivore.   Next we learn about Bison and how it mostly ran away from predators and actually fighting them.   We also learned about the Saber Tooth cat, American Lion, Columbian Mammoth, and the Camel.   Finally, we walked to Tar Pit 91 it is the only Tar Pit that they still find bones in.

Before leaving the Tar Pits we had a chance to go the Gift Shop and purchase some souvenirs.  Afterwards we all went to McDonalds and most of us ate Fish-O-Fillet.  Finally everyone headed to the cars and drove back to St. Timothy School.  When arrived at school we went to our Physical Education class with Coach Beloz.   We had an accident occur and someone accidentally fell on the floor and they had blood on their knees.    Meanwhile we played a nice game of pitcher’s hand.  Finally we were ready to go home.   Another complete and exciting day at St. Timothy School came to an end.

Today we got in school at 8:00, like always. We began our day by reading Our Time For Kids.

When we finished that we did the assigned worksheet that was for TFK. So, when we finished Ms.Jensen told us we were going to do a diorama on one of the Stations of the Cross. So, everyone picked the station that they wanted. Ms.Jensen then told us that we had to do our spelling test, but some of us didn't have to because we got 100% on our spelling pretest.

After that, we read a chapter of Among the Hidden. Then we went to snack and we ate our snacks and played for a while. Then we came inside. At that time we started to correct our math homework. Once we finished math we started our math test, which was long. And after we finished our math test we went to lunch and we played a game called Nation Ball and did this while Brooke was talking about the biggest butt in the world.

So, then after we ate our lunches we came inside and reviewed the Stations of the Cross. And after that we went to Mass to talk about The Stations of the Cross, and the fifth grade was leading this. We finally finished that and left the church. So, we went inside and packed our bags to leave and then we finally went home after another long day at school.

Wednesday, 2/6/08 Reported By: Kelly

This morning, after Ms. Jensen brought us to our classroom, we started doing Daily Oral Language (DOL).  After, we had reading stations.  The hippos’ (our groups’ name) assignments were to cut out letters from magazines and paste them onto a blank paper to make our spelling words for the week.  The following was snack.  Once snack was done, we had math.  In math, we had a subtraction timed test.  It’s when we are timed on subtraction facts.  When that was done, we corrected our math homework from last night.  Always after, we write math notes.  In math notes we learned about reducing fractions.  It seemed hard for me, but I finally got it.  We also did a game on reducing fractions and multiplying fractions by whole numbers.  When that fun game was over, we had math stations.  In math notes, Ms. Jensen put reducing fractions on the board, and we had to solve them.  Once that was done, we had lunch.  Since it was Ash Wednesday today, we had a late lunch.  We stayed out longer than usual because coach had to discuss something that happened at lunch.  When we got in our classroom we wrote down our assignments and packed up.  Because of the discussion at lunch, we had P.E. later also.  We all went home after P.E.  Of course, it was another great day of school.

Tuesday, 2/5/08 Reported By: Sofia

The school day started promptly at 8:00 a.m.  I was sad to hear that Miss Jensen was still sick and that she would not be in today.   We were lucky to have Ms. Rodriguez as a substitute teacher.  As usual we first did our D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language).  Our prayers with the Pledge of Allegiance came right after.  During the special intentions part of our prayers I asked God to bring health to my Mom since she has the flu.  We were allowed to read for a while after prayers.  Following reading time we corrected our D.O.L. assignment.  Religion class (my favorite) was next.  We read the first page of the new chapter 10 and we learned about how we can make the world more beautiful and we all had different ideas about how to do that.  I chose to plant more roses and to recycle more each day.  When religion was finished we did our reading stations.  10:20 and it is RECESS TIME!  We all went to recess and had fun playing outside and eating our snacks.  It felt good to be able to play outside and see the sun after all the rain we have had.  The bell sounding telling us to go inside and back to class came too soon.   We sat down and started math class.  We had a math quiz and we were timed for 1 1/2 minutes.  I got 71 problems answered during that time.  We reviewed the math lesson of the day on our white boards and corrected the math homework from Monday.  Once math was finished we had our English class.  Ms. Rodriguez passed around a worksheet which most of us finished but some did not.  My tummy made hungry noises and I looked at the clock which told me lunch time was now here.  We ate our lunches and played with our classmates.  When the bell rang and we had to return to the classroom we had music class with Mr. Howell.  I was happy that I finally had my recorder to practice in class with.  After Mr. Howell finished the music lesson we went back to our English work and finished correcting the handout Ms. Rodriguez had given us.  At 2:30 Ms. Lorraine called me and told me to get my things together because my mom was coming to pick me up early because she was sick.  I got my things and was waiting for my mom in the office when she got to school to pick me up.  I left school today with thoughts about how to make our world a more beautiful place.  I had a lot of ideas but one of them would be to create a special medicine so that people don't get sick anymore.  I thought about how wonderful that would be when people aren't sick and don't feel pain.

Monday, 2/4/08 Reported By: Selena

Today was going to be a different kind of day because we had a substitute teacher, Ms. Rodriguez.  Ms. Jensen was absent today, but Ms. Rodriguez is a very nice teacher and she is a good replacement for Ms. Jensen.

When the bell rang, we all line up and followed Ms Rodriguez into our classroom.  We did the regular stuff and Ms Rodriguez did not waste any time.  First, she explained to us that Ms. Jensen wasn’t feeling well today and that she was out sick! Secondly, Ms. Jensen left Ms. Rodriguez with some very good notes  for the day.  It was business as usual.  We needed to be on our best behavior so that when Ms. Jensen returned to class, she would be proud of us. Just like any other day, as if Ms. Jensen was here, we started with our Daily Oral Language (DOL) and corrected it in class.  Then we shared our Special Intentions and I prayed for the homeless people in the world.   Once we finished Special Intentions, we went right into the subject of Religion.   During this time, we talked about giving food to the homeless.  It is sad that a lot people don’t have enough money to buy food.  Sometimes we have to think of others and give back.

Following Religion, Ms Rodriquez gave us a Pre-Spelling test and I only missed one word –

(“pickle”).   I think I did pretty well!   If I was asked how to spell “pickle,” I could spell it in a heartbeat – P-I-C-K-L-E.    I love spelling and it’s one of my favorite subjects.  I am glad that we have pre-tests because it helps prepare me for the big test on Fridays.

After the Pre-spelling test, we discussed the “Pooch Pearson’s Mystery” worksheet and answered the questions in class.    Everyone in class participated and it was fun.  Once we finished the worksheet, we read a book about Louis Armstrong  , a vey popular musician who played the trumpet back in the 1950’s.  I love music, so this was very interesting to me.  My grandparents grew up listening to jazz and he was some of their favorite jazz artists.

It   was soon going to be lunchtime , but before that we had Math!   One of my

least favorite subjects, but I am learning to like it.  We did our timed test and I scored a 91.  !  We were able to get a head start on out Math Lesson 96 and decided to work on my problems so that so that I would have less homework to do tonight.

At 12:20 p.m. we went to lunch!  After I ate lunch, my friends and I played soccer, but our team lost!  Tomorrow, we will try harder to beat the other team.

After lunch, we started Language Arts.  We worked on “singular” and “plural” words.    I remembered a lot of this, so it wasn’t too hard to do.  Once we finished Language Arts, we began working in our Social Studies book – another one of my least favorite subjects.  We read and talked about Juan Rodriguez, the man who discovered New Spain.

He was kind of interesting and I liked that he was a survivor.

Finally, at the end of the day, it was clean up time.    We straightened up the room and got ready to go home.  Yippee!!!  Today was a good day, but I really missed Ms. Jensen and I hope that she feels better.

Signing off!!!
