Thursday, 4/24/08 Reported By: Mychae'l

Today, we came in and our first subject was Religion. In religion, we read pages: 212-213. After finishing Religion our next subject was Reading. In our Reading class, we read about Lewis and Clark and then we had both our Reading and Vocabulary test. After that, we each did our Reading Stations. In Reading Stations, we did both our Vocabulary and Comprehension Sheets. Finally, it was Recess! Yay!!

When, recess was over, we did Math class. In Math, everyone did Math Stations. In our Math Stations, we did a math packet, a computer game, a math board station, and calculator math. Once we finished Math, everyone continued doing their Reading Station, while others did their pen pal letters to their pen pals in Florida and Arizona. I had finished mine last week, as did some other students. Then, it was Lunchtime, and during, lunch we played tag.

When our Lunch was over, we started our Science Class. In Science, we are going to do an experiment. However, while Ms. Jensen was setting up the experiment, we did some of our Math Packet. Our experiment was about what would happen if you tied a wire 20 times around a bolt and attach it to the battery. The answer was that it became a magnet, and we all used it to pick up a paper clip and move a compass to where the head of a bolt was located. Finally, we wrote that answer into our Science worksheet. Lastly, we wrote our assignments down and went home.

Another wonderful day at St. Timothy School.

Wednesday, 4/23/08 Reported By: Sofia

The day began when Ms. Jensen greeted the class in the play yard. I was running late by 5 minutes and met my class in the classroom. When I entered the classroom the students were turning in their homework and preparing for religion class.  We did worksheets that told us about cleaning up the earth.  Yesterday was Earth Day and we are still doing work that teaches us about recycling and making our earth cleaner.  Readings stations was next and there was a word scramble that Ms. Jensen had on the white board.  We all tried to guess the word.  On Monday we will know how many students guessed the word right.  Next, Ms. Jensen talked to us about what happens when there is an accident and the costs of the accident.  I am lucky because I was not picked to choose a card.  Because if you choose the accident card you have to pay over $100.  All of a sudden it was snack time and we all went out to recess.

After recess we took a walk around the school with Ms. Jensen.  We then returned to class and had math class.  We did two runaway math sheets and I was happy that I was one of the winners.  There were 5 winners!  Then we started Social Studies and talked about Heritage Day.  Our test was next and a lot of us were glad that it was an open book test.  Lunch time came next and we all went out to eat.

After lunch we had P.E. and ran around the school yard.  All of us ran one mile!  It felt good to be able to do that.  This will help us with the Kids for Cancer Walk.  After the run we played a quick baseball game.  After P.E. we went inside and we got back to our social studies test.  Once the test was done we were able to do free reading.

Clean up time was next and we had time to balance our check books and look at our finances.  Once that was done we started writing in our agendas and Ms. Jensen started excusing us for dismissal one by one.  It was a fun and exciting day.  I really enjoyed the runaway math today.  What a great day of learning more about the earth!

Monday 4/21/08 Reported By: Grant

When I got here at 7:17 a.m., I read a book until one of my classmates got here.  The book was called, “The Revenge of the Shadow King.”  After I read some pages, Erwan came.  When I saw him it was about 7:35 a.m.  We were just talking about Heritage Day projects while Josh and Reese came and joined us.  Heritage Day is a project you have to do on a country.  We were talking about it until the bell rang.  Ms. Jensen picked us up and went inside.

When we got inside we turned in our homework and worked on Religion and do the activity.  Before anyone was finished we had to do our Spelling Test that we forgot to do on Friday.  After that, we did our Spelling Pretest.  I got 100% on both of them!  After all those tests we read the story, “Lewis and Clark” in our Reading Book.  It was a super long story! L  After reading the book we did one rotation in our Reading Stations.  I was doing Reading Comprehension Questions.  Afterwards we went to Recess.

After Recess we did our Math Timed Tests.  That is when we get timed in our arithmetic.  Again I got 100%! J  Then we did something called, Runaway Math.  It is like a crossword puzzle but with numbers.  First, we did one together.  After, we did one that was a little bit easier, but we were racing!  Whoever is in the Top 5 gets a certain amount of Class Cash.  30 minutes past and got our Top 5.  I was in 4th place, but who cares.  I got $200!  After that we did our Language Arts until the bell rang for Lunch.  Luckily, I finished before Lunch so it won’t be homework.  After, it was lunch.

After Lunch we did a Science Experiment on series circuits and parallel circuits.  We had to make both circuits and take out one bulb.  We had to write predictions, observations, and answer a few questions.  After that we did Social Studies.  We had to read and do a page in our Workbook.  After everyone was done did art.  The art we did was pointillism.  Pointillism is a painting with the primary colors, black, white, and you have to paint with only dots.  We did this until the day was over.  At the end of the day we packed up and went home.  “The fun day is over!”

Ring! The bell rang at eight o’clock. Then the teacher Ms.Jensen picked us up from the school yard. When we got inside we read the morning annocements on the overhead projector. Then the 8th graders said the annocements. After I did my religion. When I was done I went to go get a book from the library to read.

Next, we did our reading stations which we do Monday –Friday. After we did a page of Language Arts but me and most of my classmates finished before snack. Then at 10:20 we went outside for snack. When we were done with our snack me and my friends played tag. Then at 10:40 the teacher came to pick us up.

When we got in from snack we did two math       work sheets one with our partner the other one we did. Then he teacher solved it with us. We have been working on that since lunch. So then when, the bell for lunch the teacher said to go out to. I wasn’t really hungry, so I waited for my friends to play tag again.

Then when the bell rang we would usually have music but, he was sick. While the bank tellers were calling people up to make a deposit the rest of the class were starting there Social Studies. Then the teacher was giving out work to us so we can pass out for our Tuesday packet. After we were done the 3rd  grade class came in to watch a movie with us. Finally when the movie finished we packed up and school was over. And that was overall another wonderful day at St.Timothy school!

Friday, 4/18/08 Reported By: Josh

I got to school at 7:40 A.M. today.  Five of my classmates were already at school.  My class and I waited 20 minutes on the playground for our teacher to come out to get us.  When we got to our class, our teacher set up a Power Point of what we should do in the morning.  The Power Point did not have a picture like it usually does because the internet was down.  The first thing we had to do was open our Spelling book to Lesson 27 so Ms. Jensen could check it.  Right after that, we did the Pledge of Allegiance and the morning announcements.  Then Ms. Jensen told us to get a privacy folder for all of our tests.

Afterwards, we did our Reading Stations where we completed our comprehension questions and picture dictionary for the story What’s the Big Idea Benjamin Franklin?.  I had a lot of work to do and had to finish the picture dictionary for homework.

Next, we corrected our Math homework for Lessons 134 and 135.  Finally, we moved on to our Math test.  Ms. Jensen gave us 40 minutes to take the test.  I thought the Math test was pretty easy.

At 10:20 A.M. we had recess.  First, we ate our snacks.  I had oranges that my grandma cut up for me.  When my friends and I finished eating our snacks, we played the game Virus.  Virus is kind of like tag, but when you’re it and you tag someone, you and that person are it.  After recess, we went to our classroom and put our things away so that we could go to Church.  Since it was a half day, we packed up our bags early so that we wouldn’t have to after mass.

We went to Church to celebrate our school’s 50th anniversary.  This mass wasn’t like an ordinary mass because one person from each grade brought pictures and school things that represented St. Timothy School from 50 years ago to now.  I enjoyed the mass because I thought the petitions were special.  Some parents also attended the mass.  When mass ended, Ms. Jensen said, “We need to hurry up and get to class before the bell rings.”  We walked back to class and got our backpacks, lined up and were dismissed at 12:00 P.M. when the bell rang.  It was a special day at St. Timothy School!

Thursday, 4/17/08 Reported By: Brooke

Rinnng!  The school bell rings at 8:00am, all the children rush to their backpacks and the teachers come out with coffee in their hand.  Me and my class go upstairs to our classroom and do the morning work.  The day started with our religion book. We had to write a skit about being dishonest.  I wrote a skit about a boy and girl who were fighting about a $5.00 bill.  When everybody was done with religion, Ms. Jensen moved the class into different spots, 2 each, I sat next to Reese.  Then the class did the reading and vocabulary test.  After the test, some people had to finish their pen pal letters.  Our pen pals are from Arizona and Florida.  Then the bell rang for snack time.

After snack we went to the new library. And the librarians gave us cookies to munch on while we read some books.  The library was a nice little cozy place, I thought it was wonderful.  Then Ms. Jensen said, “Time to go class”. We walked all the way back to school.  As soon as we got back inside, we did our math.  We had 2 lessons for homework, even and odd number problems.  When we were done with math, we did Social Studies. We had to work with the person next to us, and guess who I had to work with?  Reese!    We had to read together and work on our social studies workbook.

Next, Ms. Jensen had this game where we wrote our name really big on a piece of blank paper.  We crumbled them up and had a snowball fight. The snowballs were actually the paper.  Ms. Jensen told us to stop, and if you had 2 pieces of paper, “drop one”.  Once everyone had one, we realize d Ms. Jensen did not have a piece of paper.  We searched for it, but it was not found. Then the bell rang for lunch.  Afterwards we found Ms. Jensen with a crumbled piece of paper on her desk.

She opened the piece of paper and it had Kimberly on it.  She said that we each had to say something nice about the person on our piece of paper.  We went around the classroom opening our pieces of paper and I had Nona.  I said “Nona is a good friend”.  Afterwards, Ms. Jensen let us watch the rest of our movie, Planet Earth.  She had the whole series.  After we finished the first series, she put in the second.  While the movie was going, the bank was opened.  Some of the class deposited their cash in the bank.  I deposited $150 and got $25 back.  When the movie was finished, we did science, and the bank closed.

Next, we read a lesson and did a work page for science.  While everyone was writing homework in their agenda.  Erwan was cleaning the mouse cage, her name is “Brownie”.  After Erwan cleaned Brownies’ cage, he put her back into the cage.  Then we wiped down our desk, packed up our stuff, and left to go home.  That is what I call a fun day!

When the day began Ms. Jensen came outside to pick us up from the play ground, then she took us upstairs to our classroom. We read the morning announcements Ms. Jensen put up on the board.  Then we said the pledge of allegiance and the Morning Prayer which was “Our Father”. Today we did not do our D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language). After all of the work we had to do, we did “Time for Kids” magazine with the main part being allergies. Finally, we did our spelling test that I did not have to do because I got all of them right on the spelling pretest. Then we reread our story of the week right before our test on it.

Then we had snack time at 10:20 a.m. which lasts for twenty minutes. When we came back from snack time, we took out our Math Review and Math Homework. After we corrected it, Ms. Jensen said "Does anybody have any questions about the math"? Then she handed out the Math Test that we had to do. If we finished early, we had to finish our reading stations.

We did our reading stations until it was time for lunch which is 12:20 p.m. and lasts to 1:00 p.m. After we ate lunch, we wanted to play some games but we could not play because of a bee hive and flying bees. When we got back from lunch, we did our math test or reading stations if you finished your math early. Then we did art for the rest of the day and some of us drew pictures of a sunset. Then before you knew it was time to go home. Ms.Jensen took us down stairs to be dismissed for the day. Now it is time for the weekend.

At 8:00 am in the morning the school bell ranged and our class went into the school.  Ms. Jensen wrote down the homework that we had to turn in.  After that we had to do our religion and do something good today.  I said I would eat a healthy food. So, I ate more fruit than I usually do.  Then we had reading stations.  Following reading stations was snack and we played tag.

After snack it was time for math.  We learned about dividing by decimals.  This was the same as regular division, but you bring up the decimal.  Then we corrected our math homework.  When math was over we did a reading station before lunch.

Then it was time for lunch. Then we played tag again.  After lunch we read a chapter and worked on our Social Studies questions on page 32.  Then it was time for Language Arts.  We did pages 170 and 171.  Once we finished it was time to work on our art project.  We mixed several dots together to make different colors. I made gold by mixing three colors.  Cool, huh?

Then it was time to go home and we wrote our homework down and packed up our bags.  Then we wiped down our desks.  We packed up and went home.  Yes, another fine day in the fourth grade.

Today started when Ms. Jensen picked us up from the playground. When we entered the classroom we did our Daily Schedule for the day. We did two pages in religion, turned in our worksheets, and got ready to start the new day. Then we did our reading stations (one of my very favorite classes). We switched two times and then suddenly, it was snack time!

The bell rang too soon and told us we had to go back inside to do math.  We had a timed math test, and wrote down some notes on the math lesson. Next we had a little bit of extra time to get some of our homework done while at school.  I like this because this way I can have more time to relax when I get home.  After math time came lunch! I had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich and a soda to go with it. After that we had our physical education class [one of my favorite classes]. We were all soon playing “paramedic” which is a very popular game. We had a good game!

After that we came inside and we had our science class.  We had a test today.  I studied hard but was not sure how difficult the test would be.  After the test I felt good about how I answered the questions.  After the test we had history class and read about the Gold Rush and Forty-Niners.  It was very interesting and we also worked in our workbooks. It was soon time to clean up our areas and wrote our homework down in our agendas. After that we heard our teacher, Ms. Jensen read part of a story, Among the Hidden [Yay!] before the bell rang. Finally, when the bell rang we went were ready to leave the classroom and head home.   Just another day packed with a lot of learning and good fun at St. Timothy!

Monday, 3/31/08 Reported By: Brooke

Today was the first day back from spring break.  We had a whole week off from school.  When I got to school, children were playing on the playground, and then the bell rang. All the students rushed to get in their class line.  The teachers came out to meet their students.  My class went up to Ms. Jensen's room.  We looked on the board and saw we should take out our privacy folders. Ms. Jensen said, "there is a test on your desk”, and then we took a religion  test.  When everybody was done, we corrected the test.  After that, we talked about a paper on the board called the "Classified".

This was a newspaper that had jobs on it.  These were jobs we might think of doing.  One job I thought of doing was the patrol officer.  I would watch for law violators in the classroom.  We picked the 3 top jobs we wanted and then we filled out an application  for the job.  The money that we earned could be used to pay rent each month.   At the end of each month, we get to do a class auction. We buy stuff the class has brought in to sell.  Next, it was snack time.

After snack we finished filling out our applications.   Some jobs needed a letter of reference, so I wrote a letter to Ms. D, my 3rd grade teacher to ask if she thought this job was right for me. Finally it was lunch time. When we finished lunch, we got checkbooks. We learned how to deposit checks and money to the banker.  Since we didn't have a banker yet, we just gave them to Ms. Jensen.  Then we filled out our checkbooks with our first and last name and cut them out.  I think I was the first one to be done, and Ms. Jensen called me up to staple my checkbook.  I wrote my first and last name  on the cover. I wrote "Checkbook" using a marker.  We had $5.00 to spend.  After I wrote Ms. Jensen a check for $2.00, we got this paper to keep track of the checks we write.   Once that was done, Ms. Jensen said there were 5 applications for one job and 4 applications  for another. So we had to do interviews. We took out our agenda to see what day and time we would have our interviews.  Afterwards we talked about rent.

Our rent would be $500 a month, and if we buy our chair and desk, that is considered our home, that would be $1500.   Later in the day, we talked about reading bingo and the vocabulary word of the week. We picked our words.  My word is "barge".  Then we packed up, got ready to go, and said goodbye to Ms. Jensen.  We learned about our jobs and useful ways to use our money today.  This was a fun way to start the week.
