Monday, 2/4/08 Reported By: Selena

Today was going to be a different kind of day because we had a substitute teacher, Ms. Rodriguez.  Ms. Jensen was absent today, but Ms. Rodriguez is a very nice teacher and she is a good replacement for Ms. Jensen.

When the bell rang, we all line up and followed Ms Rodriguez into our classroom.  We did the regular stuff and Ms Rodriguez did not waste any time.  First, she explained to us that Ms. Jensen wasn’t feeling well today and that she was out sick! Secondly, Ms. Jensen left Ms. Rodriguez with some very good notes  for the day.  It was business as usual.  We needed to be on our best behavior so that when Ms. Jensen returned to class, she would be proud of us. Just like any other day, as if Ms. Jensen was here, we started with our Daily Oral Language (DOL) and corrected it in class.  Then we shared our Special Intentions and I prayed for the homeless people in the world.   Once we finished Special Intentions, we went right into the subject of Religion.   During this time, we talked about giving food to the homeless.  It is sad that a lot people don’t have enough money to buy food.  Sometimes we have to think of others and give back.

Following Religion, Ms Rodriquez gave us a Pre-Spelling test and I only missed one word –

(“pickle”).   I think I did pretty well!   If I was asked how to spell “pickle,” I could spell it in a heartbeat – P-I-C-K-L-E.    I love spelling and it’s one of my favorite subjects.  I am glad that we have pre-tests because it helps prepare me for the big test on Fridays.

After the Pre-spelling test, we discussed the “Pooch Pearson’s Mystery” worksheet and answered the questions in class.    Everyone in class participated and it was fun.  Once we finished the worksheet, we read a book about Louis Armstrong  , a vey popular musician who played the trumpet back in the 1950’s.  I love music, so this was very interesting to me.  My grandparents grew up listening to jazz and he was some of their favorite jazz artists.

It   was soon going to be lunchtime , but before that we had Math!   One of my

least favorite subjects, but I am learning to like it.  We did our timed test and I scored a 91.  !  We were able to get a head start on out Math Lesson 96 and decided to work on my problems so that so that I would have less homework to do tonight.

At 12:20 p.m. we went to lunch!  After I ate lunch, my friends and I played soccer, but our team lost!  Tomorrow, we will try harder to beat the other team.

After lunch, we started Language Arts.  We worked on “singular” and “plural” words.    I remembered a lot of this, so it wasn’t too hard to do.  Once we finished Language Arts, we began working in our Social Studies book – another one of my least favorite subjects.  We read and talked about Juan Rodriguez, the man who discovered New Spain.

He was kind of interesting and I liked that he was a survivor.

Finally, at the end of the day, it was clean up time.    We straightened up the room and got ready to go home.  Yippee!!!  Today was a good day, but I really missed Ms. Jensen and I hope that she feels better.

Signing off!!!
